The Anti-Barney...the Wiggles’ worst nightmare…the Boogers!
Get ready for the kiddie mosh pit! Formed by a punk rock dad with a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology, the Boogers are all about bringing rock n’ roll to the kids. Their debut album, “Road to Rock” won a 2009 National Parenting Publications Gold Award for Children’s Audio and they’ve been featured in the pages of Chicago Parent, the Chicago Tribune, and Cookie Magazine as well as on WGN-TV. Best for ages 1-10 and perfect for your budding rocker!
"The aptly named BOOGERS perform their hard-driving, chord-driven rock n' roll for the youngsters in a style reminiscent of New York Punksters The Ramones. Of course, their songs are crafted with age-appropriate material. The only sedation going on here is an after-show nap." - Chicago Tribune
"If the Ramones had ever decided to make a children's CD this is what it would have sounded like. There will be no stoppin' the kiddies from hoppin' after listen to this music." - Monte Melnick, Ramones Tour Manager & Author of "On the Road with the Ramones"
$10 for everyone over the age of two

Sons of the Never Wrong with June Shellene

Sons of the Never Wrong are a folk trio from chicago made up of Bruce Roper, Deborah Lader, and Sue Demel. The band has been creating original "turbo-charged folk music" for 15 years to a cult-like national following. With their different take on three part harmony on top of witty, whimsical songs, Sons’ style springs from a tradition you’d swear you've heard, but this just ain't your grandpop's folk music. “The personal glues that hold the group together are a clear joy in performing together, a sense of gratitude to a loyal fan base, and three dry, delightfully skewed senses of humor.” Chicago Tribune
Pianist and singer June Shellene celebrates the release of her second CD, Wait ‘Til Midnight Ends, a self-produced (with bassist Jim Cox) collection of original songs. Her first CD, The Lost Art of Love, won two achievement awards from Billboard Magazine and her songs have been covered by an array of artists, from jazz pianist Judy Roberts, to Broadway powerhouse Patti Lupone. Fans of Sons of The Never Wrong know June as the popular trio’s pianist, while theatre fans may remember her as a performer/musician, a writer (Dealing at Northlight Theatre) or musical director/producer (Steppenwolf’s The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, in Chicago and on Broadway.) Her voice is featured in David Mamet’s classic film, House of Games, and her teaching schedule has included piano and voice at the Old Town School and music theory for Ravinia’s Education Outreach.

This summer exhibit will feature the works of Joe Steiner and Shelley Bruccar, in addtion to other local artists.
Joe is an observational figurative painter who works exclusively from life. He talks to his models while he paints, this helps him to connect with his feelings about them. His goal as an artist is to open the door to his emotions and sharpen his eye as an observer.
Shelly is energized and fascinated by colors, textures and patterns on fabric. She uses cloth, dyes and threads as a painter uses canvas and paint. She starts with white fabric, dyes it, screens it, puts color in, takes color out, paints it and stitches it. She has gradually moved from layering of fabric to more whole-cloth surface design and from mostly representational to more impressionistic, allowing the piece to lead and inspire her.
Feel free to contact Simply Chicago Art with any questions you may have, 847-738-0716.
Artist Reception Saturday July 10, 1:00-5:00

Ray Benson (Ray Benson Siefert, Lucky Oceans and Leroy Preston were really just three alterna-culture refugees when they landed in Paw Paw, W. Va., in the summer of 1969. Their plan was to form a real live Western swing band, influenced by the likes of fellow-gonzo-swinger Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen. After drifting through Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, the band (which got its record deal when Van Morrison raved about them in Rolling Stone) landed in heart of Bob Wills country: Austin, Texas, in the early '70s. With its fondness for jazz, blues, rock and country, the band was an instant hit with the same folks who embraced Willie Nelson and the rest of the Outlaws.
The band only scored one Top 10 country hit -- 1975's "The Letter That Johnny Walker Read" -- but has collected eight Grammys since then. In addition to two-all star Bob Wills tributes in the '90s, the ensemble offered a concept album Asleep at the Wheel Remembers the Alamo in 2003. Also that year, Benson (the only remaining founding member) released his first solo album, Beyond Time, which earned two Grammy nominations.

From the trials of first loves and little league championships to battles with book reports and kite-eating trees, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown is a delightfully quirky and infectious musical based on Charles M. Schulz's classic comic strip. Spend a day in the life of the inept but ever-hopeful Charlie Brown as he searches for what it means to be a good person, finding unexpected answers from the beloved childhood gang—bossy Lucy ("The Doctor is In"), brainy Linus ("My Blanket and Me"), Beethoven super-fan Schroeder, sister Sally, savvy beagle Snoopy and the elusive little red-haired girl. The 1999 Tony Award-winning Broadway revival featured new music and lyrics by award-winning composer Andrew Lippa ( The Addams Family).

Pipes of the American Indian

Mitchell Museum of the American Indian

This exhibit displays the native american pipes and pipe related artifacts on red felt cloth in order to honor and respect the pipe bowls, stems and bags with this symbolically significant color. Pipes and tobacco were widely traded among tribal and geographic regions of North America. Additionally, innovations and design elements characteristic of a particular group may have been shared as members of groups combined forces or when individuals were adopted into new communities. Therefore, attributing certain stylistic innovations to specific groups can be difficult. Pipes may be adorned with additional materials such as human or horse hair, feathers or bird wings, beads, quillwork, fur, ribbons, carvings. These items would have special significance to either the individual owner or the group. Leather pipe bags were used to hold tobacco and pipe bowls and stems when not in use. Decorative elements vary over time and according to tribal styles.
